UBCO’s new aerospace choice simply took off

Conor Badovich and Pradeep Pugalendhi, each graduates from the UBC Okanagan College of Engineering, are working at KF Aerospace in Kelowna.

To fulfill the rising demand for aerospace engineers in Western Canada, UBC Okanagan’s College of Engineering is launching an aerospace choice.

The brand new choice shall be accessible to manufacturing and mechanical engineering college students, explains Dr. Joshua Brinkerhoff, affiliate professor of mechanical engineering and coordinator of the aerospace choice.

“Aerospace is a big trade in British Columbia and western Canada,” he says. “Our trade companions within the aerospace sector are searching for highly-qualified graduates with very particular expertise. This selection will present our college students with a strong basis to satisfy these necessities.”

Kelowna’s KF Aerospace has been a key associate in serving to information and develop the brand new program. KF Aerospace is the town’s largest personal sector employer and at the moment has 25 engineering graduates.

“KF Aerospace may be very excited to have an aerospace engineering choice at UBC Okanagan. This program will assist help us with domestically developed expertise as we proceed to develop Canada’s main engineering providers,” mentioned KF’s Chief Operations Says Officer Greg Evgen. “We thank UBCO for its help in launching a program that may assist develop the aerospace sector in Western Canada.”

The Aerospace Engineering choice will equip college students with state-of-the-art expertise, competencies, ideas and design methodologies to coach engineers with specialised ability units in aerospace engineering.

Dr. Will Hughes, Director of the College of Engineering, says, “Our college students have a monitor document of excellence in a wide range of disciplines and we’re excited to develop our choices to seek out what they’re captivated with. Huh.”

The primary consumption for the Aerospace Engineering choice begins this fall and college students shall be required to undertake a fourth-year aerospace capstone venture earlier than finishing this system.

“Establishing a brand new choice in aerospace engineering is a big enterprise, however primarily based on suggestions from college students, college and trade, we’re assured sooner or later horizon of this program,” says Dr. Hughes. “We won’t wait to get it off the bottom, and we’re excited to introduce this new choice to our college students.”
